Hampton Roads Urgent Care Clinics

Common Injuries and Urgent Care vs Emergency Room

When do I go to a Urgent Care?

An urgent care clinic will provide help for issues such as illnesses, minor accidents, infections, and pains. But there are limits to what an urgent care clinic can do. For any issue threatening life, limb, or eyesight, you’ll need to go to a hospital. We get a lot of questions on what conditions we can handle at In and Out Express Care. In this article, we’ll go over a few common complaints and what to do if they occur.

My 8 year old son fell off his bike and his arm is swollen, bruised and sore to the touch. Can I go to In and Out Express Care to see if he may have broken something?

Yes! You sure can. Each one of our clinics has an x-ray and x-ray tech. We would be more than happy to see your son and make sure he’s ok.

I am a marathon runner. I have slight pain in my anterior (front) calf. If I press on it, it’s quite painful. It hurts when I run and it also hurts at rest. Can I come into In and Out Express Care to see if something is wrong?

Yes! You can come into any one of our clinics to be seen by one of our friendly and knowledgeable doctors or physicians assistants. We are always happy to help. Our providers are up to date on the latest in injuries and injury prevention in athletes. It’s best to come see us before more damage is done. Continuing to run on an injured leg can permanently damage the delicate tissue around the shins. What starts out as a simple case of shin splints can quickly turn into a stress fracture. And a stress fracture will keep you sidelined for at least 8-10 weeks.

My husband was getting leaves out of the gutter of our house and he smashed his hand on the ladder. It’s bruised, swollen and he cannot move it. Can he be seen at In and Out Express Care to see what’s wrong?

Absolutely! Come on in and let us take a look at that hand. It’s always better to err on the side of caution when dealing with injuries. Ignoring them can lead to devastating and possibly permanent damage.

My 1-year-old got his hand stuck in the bars of his crib. His little arm is purple, bruised and swollen. Can I bring him in to In and Out Express Care to have an X-ray done?

Unfortunately, we only see children 2 years old and above at In and Out Express Care. Our recommendation would be to take your son to a children’s specialty urgent care or emergency room.

I am a 55 year old woman having chest pain and numbness in my right arm. Heart disease runs in my family. I am afraid I am having a heart attack. Can I come into In and Out Express Care to be treated?

In the case of possible life threatening conditions, you should call an ambulance or be driven to the nearest emergency room. Delay in treating a heart attack can be life threatening. Please call 911 for the best chance of surviving a heart attack.

I was playing soccer and twisted my knee. I heard a pop and it’s swollen and bruised. I can’t put any weight on my leg. Can I come into In and Out Express Care to see what’s wrong?

Yes! We would be more than happy to take a look at your knee. We go to great lengths to keep our patients out of the operating room. We try a non-surgical approach to orthopedics. Most of the time, the body can heal itself if you let it. You do have to be patient because healing can take up to 1 year in some cases. Going back to sports physicals before you have healed all the way can lead to permanent damage.

We’re here for you!

If in doubt, please feel free to call any of our urgent care clinics in Hampton Roads to see if we can help with whatever is ailing you! In and Out Express Care’s about you. Come in today to feel better FAST!
